Tower Theater - Landscape Architecture + LBC Biophilic Design for a Non-Profit in Salt Lake City, UT

The Tower Theater renovation transforms a historic cornerstone of the local arts and culture scene of Salt Lake City into an inclusive, biophilic, and sustainable space for all community members to benefit from. Bio Studio serves as the project landscape architect, designing the living roof, the interior and exterior living walls, and the streetscape, intentionally enhancing user experience and wellbeing as well as providing connected habitat for native species. Bio Studio also leads the design and integration of the Living Building Challenge (LBC) Beauty and Biophilia Petal through all phases of design. Bio Studio facilitated a two-day workshop with diverse stakeholders to explore how sensory connection, cultural identity, and stories of people and place can shape the character of the theater and inform how biophilia may enrich the experience for all. The resulting insights guide the design, where natural materials, light, and living features together help to foster wellbeing and belonging in the space. Each design element carefully aligns with the client’s mission of resilience, accessibility, and community enrichment. The project envisions and plans for the next 100-years of operation, ensuring the theater meets the needs of today’s community while reflecting the historical continuing to inspire and serve future generations.
